South Central College HLC accreditation status continued
There are a lot of smiling faces at South Central College, and for good reason. South Central College first received accreditation by the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools in 1995 and was recently notified of our continued accreditation status. This status is important to the public and the students we serve as it is a formal recognition of the quality of our educational institution. It provides assurances that SCC meets quality standards. Accreditation means that credits and degrees earned at SCC will be respected by employers and other educational institutions. Accreditation facilitates transferability of coursework and it provides access to student financial aid and certain federal funding opportunities that are not available to institutions that are not accredited.

Difficulties in living between the United States and Korea
It has been a month since I came back to Korea from the United States. I had been in the United States for such a long time that I felt glad but a little awkward when I arrived in Korea at the beginning of this summer vacation. I have realized that differences between life in Korea and that in the United States have had a great impact on my life as an international student who goes back and forth between the two nations every year. This time, I would like to share difficulties that I face when I live in the United States and in Korea.

Reading fun for reluctant readers
Last month’s letter writer asked for help with kids who don’t really enjoy reading in the summer. I offered ideas other than traditional books that might appeal to kids, especially in today’s electronic world. Try interactive books online (free or cheap), audio books (free – at library – or cheap), or e-books (inexpensive after hefty initial purchase).
