A proper farewell
It was heartwarming to see the Faribault community come out in such big numbers to support Ron and Kelly Landsverk as they celebrated the life of their daughter, Brittney. The memorial service was a standing-room only occasion; those who attended said although it was a sad passing of a life too young, it was also filled with love and laughter.
That’s all any of us can hope for before we move on from this world: That we leave this place better than it was when we entered and that we love as much as we are loved.
That’s the final lesson Brittney Landsverk taught us.
You can’t ignore the numbers
More people in the area need help. That’s the only conclusion you can draw from the numbers St. Vincent de Paul volunteers offer. Since last year, the center has seen a marked increase in the number of families it serves, so much so that it has had to abandon offering the financial assistance it originally promised it would have. Center president Bill Lewis said they’re spending nearly $3,500 a month on food, up from $2,000.
When more people are seeking help buying food, you know they’ve reached the end of their rope.
Consider donating your time or money to St. Vincent de Paul because you never know when you might need the center in the future.
You can’t ignore numbers, part II
Steve Haglind has the right idea. If golf is ever going to become more than a sport of the socio-economic elite, it has to be more affordable. Haglind, CFO and director of operations for the Straight River Golf Course, plans to hold a grand re-opening of the course next month to show potential customers the new and much improved course.
His plan to draw ‘em in? Free golf all weekend.
We’ll be there, with our cutoffs on. |
