To the editor:
The recent Faribault Daily News article and the editorial that highlighted the Kids Connection summer youth programming were great! They are reminders about the importance of helping kids maintain academic skills and physical activity though the summer months. Kids Connection programs at Cannon River Mobile Home Park and the Prairie Avenue Community Garden sites are possible because of a partnership between the Faribault Schools’ 21st Century Community Learning Center and SHAC (So How Are the Children).
This federal grant is designated for out-of-school time activities and pays for supplies and some of the staff for summer programs. We also appreciate the manpower provided by interns from Carleton and St. Olaf colleges, an AmeriCorps Promise Fellow and volunteer Bryan Benson. The Faribault United Way’s Big RED truck has served as our mobile unit during Kids Connection sessions. The neighborhood Kids Connection programs are an amazing model of how new programming is possible when schools and organizations work together!
